Making Our Mark

I think I’ve given y’all plenty of examples of Charlie’s love of inappropriate music. I wrote this post here and there’s this Youtube video here if you missed it.

So in the mornings at school, I park the car, pop the trunk, and start putting Charlie’s chair together. While he waits, I keep the car running so he’s cool, give him a toy, and make sure a good song is playing–usually a CD of his favorites. I’m getting faster, but in the beginning he would cry thinking I’d forgotten him in the car or something.

And then it hit me. You know that guy in high school who’s in the parking lot with his trunk up, showing off his awesome sound system? It could be at a parade, or a football game, or a bonfire, but the guy was always there. I’m him, blaring Jason DeRulo while nice teacher ladies scuttle off to their classes. I’m sure I’m making a great impression on them all.

Post beignet happiness

On Tuesday I’ll remember to turn the music down.

  1. Music is life and if it makes Charlie happy, turn it up, way up! And beignet, a boy after my heart! What a cutie!

  2. I am still hoping my four year old doesn’t go to day care singing “the chicks will cream for Greased Lightening!” Today she was singing a messed up version of Jason Mraz’s song “The Remedy”about poison and remedies. I’m a little scared about tomorrow.

  3. Carly likes to “brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack.” Go Charlie!

  4. Nice! Maybe you should look into some gold hubcaps and hydraulics–now that will make an impression!

  5. It’s always you keeping it lively!!

  6. You keep that music turned up! Life’s too dull in teacher land. Just because our kiddos have special needs doesn’t mean we have to live amongst the uncool!!! We all need our mini-escapes, including that there is nothing wrong with shaking your tail feathers and signing along when you’re assembling the wheelchair (been there!)

    Rock on –

  7. Ohhhh, the boy loves beignets—-so cute! You just made me drool. Morning Call in Metairie is my favorite.

  8. Him jamming to Boom Boom Pow was the shizzle! Love it! Music is an amazing thing!

  9. giggle :)

  10. Maybe your should drop the popnlock while you assemble!

Hey, he’s the cool kid! WOOOHOOO!

  11. We’re always making an inappropriate mark with our kids’ music preferences. Jim actually requested a praise and worship CD for Eli’s birthday because of late the child has become so enamored with, of all things, Reel Big Fish, that he was wandering around the playground singing the song, “She’s Got a Girlfriend” to his little friends. Ahem. Age appropriate much? We figured we’d better throw in some family friendly choices or our kids are going to be the ones no one else is allowed to play with!

  12. Oh, did you say something? I’m too busy staring into those beautiful wide-open eyes!!

  13. Such a rebel!

I love that picture of Charlie! Oh my word, the kid is adorable!

  14. Ha! Good one. I can see it in my head. πŸ˜‰
