Operation Take Care of Mommy

I think that every new mom can attest to letting themselves go a little. When I was pregnant I was getting regular pedicure, going shoe shopping, and generally making sure I looked nice. After Charlie was born there was a spiral of not sleeping, not fixing my hair, and generally wandering around in my pajamas.

So, now that things are less stressfull and more routine, I’ve decided to spend a little time on myself.

Today, I had my eyes examined for the first time since before I got pregnant. I’m wearing my contacts now (no real change in my prescription), and I ordered a new pair of super-fabulous glasses. Sadly, they are JLo brand, which I find a little disturbin, but I thought they were cute. I still have my trusty black frames, but now I have some fun ones too.

I also managed to get in a little exercise twice this week, which is nothing short of a miracle.

Now, if I could only figure out what the hell to do with my hair.

Good work on your self-care! Very important.
Also, this is re: your last post, but, I have the best story! One of my friends is terrified of flying, too, and at the last minute, on their honeymoon, she freaked the freak out and refused to get on the plane! They had to drive FOR TWO DAYS to get where they were going! They barely spoke the first day because he was so pissed that she had wrecked their trip. He finally got over it, but they were still on the road, so their honeymoon sex- their first sex EVER, mind you- was in the back of a car!

SUPER cute glasses. Love the two-tone thing going on! I just have the boring basic black frames … Should upgrade to something a little cuter. Last time I went to the opto he tried to talk me into some frames along the lines of these… http://zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=1039&cat=13&page=1#largeimage
What the hell. Maybe if I was freakin’ Mulan.

  3. Yeah for new glasses and exercising. I need both, but haven’t accomplished either. Emmaline is finally sleeping completely through the night, so maybe I’ll start getting up early to run on the treadmill or use the kettlebells my husband bought me for Mother’s Day. Then again, I really value my sleep! =)

  4. Go you!
I’m sure you will look totally bad-ass in your new glasses. I finally broke down and went to the eye doc myself–but only because my one pair of 3yr old glasses broke all ta hell.
The pics of Charlie were adorable! Hope all goes well with your appt. today.
PS I am interested to see what kind of artistic info you did procure e-mail me later on when you get a chance.

  5. I haven’t done ANY of those things..in oh…almost four years. EGADS!!!

Those glasses are super cute! I want some, too. I should get my eyes checked as I’ve had the same glasses since…before college (shhhhhh).

  6. Woohoo! I think it’s important for any mom to do things for HER, too many end up losing their identities so that all they end up being is “mom”. I remember when I was married and had the stepkid, I loved going to the gym in the mornings before work – because it was the only real ME time that I had!

Cute glasses!! My friend has some almost exactly like that only hers are black with the turquoise in the inside like that. Super fun and cute. Love it!

I have actually been getting a little exercise this week, too! Feels kinda good.

Good for you! I too have let myself go – in fact I’m gone – so far gone that I don’t even know where I am anymore! Nothing like living in a hospital bed in your living room for 4 months and then having a baby to make you realize that you can actually wear your pajamas for days, lose your hairbrush, etc., and still get by.

However, I too am starting to think it’s time to take control again. Maybe tomorrow…

  9. Love the glasses. The girls and I are praying for your plane fear every morning until you leave, and you know they got some powerful prayer. You’ll be fine.

Oh yes take a “ME” day. There’s nothing wrong with that!
