Day Twenty-Five (three left!)

What She Wore: black running pants; purple, short-sleeve LSU t-shirt; tennis shoes.

What She Ate: My husband’s father and step-mother brought over Picadilly. I had a piece of fried catfish, cucumber salad, corn, and macaroni and cheese.

Ok. Tell me which chair you like best.

The Queen Anne:

Or the cane back:

Both need their cushions recovered. The cane backs are a little more comfy. The Queen Annes belonged to my great-grandparents. The cane backs belonged to my grandparents. I could probably paint the cane backs a la Shabby Chic, but I don’t think I could do that to the Queen Annes. My garage is starting to look like a chair warehouse with all the seats I have in there. Wichever set I don’t use I’m going to take at least a couple and use them as occasional chairs around the rest of the house.

Let me know what you think! Oh, and here’s Charlie’s new chair. He’s not crazy about it just yet.

  1. I like that cane-back chair I think probably because you said you could paint it…but now I’m all interested in what fabric will you cover the seat with? Next post, perhaps? And I love your new opening picture–where did you get that wreath?

  2. I def like the second chair better, just because it looks more comfortable.

I LOVE that pic of Charlie! Poor thing! He looks so nervous!

    Hope that all is well!

  3. I prefer the queen anne, but I’m not a cane person.

    They are both very nice.

  4. I think the Queen Anne is much prettier.

Ack! Two votes for each. Keep the opnions coming, people!

To answer the question: I don’t know what fabric exactly, but I could show you guys some options.

The wreath is from Michael’s. It’s actually a tiny little wreath that cost just five dollars–I don’t really have a budget for St. Patrick’s day decorations, so I had to do it on the cheap.

  6. I like the first option!

  7. I like the Queen Anne! Much more stylish in my opinion.

If you mean which set to use in your dining room, I’d say the Queen Anne. And I think the canebacks would look really great done in shabby chic & scattered around. Does that help any:)

  9. I like the cane back chair. And bless you and Charlie! I found you through Becca

Hugs to you and your family.

  10. queen anne. hands down.

I totally love the idea of using the cane-back chairs and painting them. I can’t wait to see what you re-cover the seats with too!

  12. Leucantha` says:

Oh vey! I can’t make a decision like that. I would be posting it on my blog too. I love the new banner and the wreath though.

  13. Okay, I’m assuming the picture of the front door is your front door? I love it! And, I like the cane-back chair! You have done an awesome job!

I love the pic of little Charlie! he is so cute!!!

    Big Hugs – Tiffany

  14. Ok. I could have sworn I left a comment!

    Try again….

I like the Queen Anne because they have a cleaner line but I think the cane backs look more unique. I don’t think I would paint them if you used them.

    Re: the squares
I see I did have a picture of my hallway. It is not hard… just time consuming. First, create your square from cardboard or something. Next, put up a laser gadget to get your straight horizontal line. Then using your form, put little dots using a pencil at the corners of the form as you move along the laser line. You can do the whole wall just from this one laser line.

Then you use painters tape and tape from one dot to the next and outline your squares. This is the time consuming part because you can only do so many squares at a time as you can’t do any squares that are touching at the same time. Then put two coats of paint in the square according to your little diagram of what colour goes where. Peel off tape. Tape another set of squares. Paint your two coats… repeat.

Like I said… not complicated at all.

  15. Hi there!
I like the queen anne chairs for your dining room. They are more clean lined and the tone of the wood is nice and warm. The cane back chairs make better accent chairs because they are heftier add texture to the room. Good luck! BTW I have a chair addiction also. I have “rescued” so many cool chairs from the alleys of chicago. (much to the chagrin of my hubby)
